November 16, 2006 -- For the professional woman swimming coach: Whether you are a full or part-time, senior or age group, club or college coach, here is your opportunity to establish your coaching network, develop your leadership skills and build long term lasting relationships with leaders in your industry.

The First Annual Women in Coaching National Swimming Conference is scheduled for April 27-29, 2007 at the beautiful Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  See the flier below:

November 8, 2006 -- There will be an Age Group and Senior Swimming Committee meeting at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 15 at the Schroeder YMCA to discuss and then make a recommendation at the January House of Delegates meeting about the Travel Fund.  The Finance Committee is looking for a solution to the forecasted difference in expected Travel Fund expenditures for the 2007 season and the expected revenue to be collected from meet entry fees during the year.  Please mail your thoughts directly to David Anderson, Senior Chair, before next Wednesday so that when the committees meet on 11/15 we have some direction.

There are three basic options to support:

  1. Decrease Travel Fund spending
  2. Increase the amount of revenue collected
  3. A combination of numbers 1 & 2
The difference is about $15,000.

Please e-mail your response to: danderson.sa@ymcamke.org.

August 28, 2006 -- After 23 successful years of providing the Germantown community with year round swim instruction, competitive swim programs and scholarship opportunities, the Germantown Seahawk Swim Club has been forced to close its doors.  This well rounded program served the needs of the five year old beginning swimmers up to the college age Olympic Trial qualifiers.  The club survived for 20 months following the close of the Germantown High School Pool by renting pool time from other communities such as the Schroeder YMCA, UWM and Milwaukee County's Noyes Pool.  The hardship and expense of families having to travel miles from Germantown to other communities for daily practice has forced a decline in membership and ultimately our closure as a club.  The talents of our swimmers and dedicated parents will be relocated from Germantown and eagerly absorbed in other communities swim clubs.

We take this opportunity to thank the teams that have always supported GSSC.  Also we would like to extend a special thank you to Matt Miller and Dave Anderson (Schroeder YMCA) Dave Clark and Joel Rollings (UWM) for always finding open lanes at their pools for us.

It is our sincere hope that someday the Germantown Community will realize the need to rebuild their community pool which will enable GSSC to once again provide the community with their own competitive swim program as well providing an offering for the public to enjoy swimming year round.

August 25, 2006 -- USA Swimming announced today that the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials will be held June 29 - July 6, 2008, at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb.  The June 29 start date represents a one-day shift from the original schedule.  Trials were previously scheduled to begin June 30.  For more information see the USA Swimming Website.
August 23, 2006 -- Wisconsin Swimming was well represented at the 2006 U.S. Paralympics National Championships in San Antonio Aug. 10-12.  At a Paralympic meet disabled athletes from around the world, who are classified by their ability level, compete against athletes with similar abilities.  The meet this summer also served as the selection meet for the swimmers that will represent Team USA at the Paralympic World Championships which will be held in Durban, South Africa in November.

Pictured here are the three athletes from Wisconsin who qualified for the National meet.  (Left to Right): Tom Miazga from Ozaukee Aquatics won the 200 Backstroke in the S8 classification.  Kelley Becherer from Sheboygan YMCA, S13, was named to the US Paralympic World Team.  Alex Dionne from Schroeder YMCA won the 200 Butterfly in the S7 classification.  All three athletes also posted numerous best times.  Congratulations!

August 21, 2006 -- Officials and Meet Directors:
Please check out the updated officials lists on the Wisconsin Swimming Officials Page.  As before, there is a listing by classification (starter/ref, stroke/turn, trainees).  New is a list by team which should make it easier to identify officials who may be coming to a swim meet.  Any corrections or changes should be sent to Judy Linsley at jlins53217@earthlink.net.

August 3, 2006 -- Important information is being updated on the 2006 Zone Team Page.  Recent postings:
August 1, 2006 -- Results from the 2006 Wisconsin 12 & Under Long Course Championship Meet.
July 21, 2006 -- USA Swimming National Championships will be Webcast live by WCSN.COM, a new sports network that showcases a number of olympic sports.  The broadcast will be live from Irvine, CA, and will be offered free.

July 18, 2006 -- Here is the way you can designate bonus events on your 12 & Under meet entries.  In Team Manager 4.0 there is a "Bonus" entry option.  All the entry chair has to do is type a "b" or "B" in front of the seed time or check the "bonus" column in the athlete entry screen.  When you print your entries, and when the meet director inputs the entries from a club into Meet Manager 2.0, the Bonus entry will have a "b" along with the seed time and these entries will be seeded last.  In order to delete a bonus entry, though, you need to go to the "Event Browser" in Team Manager.
July 18, 2006 -- SEAY is seeking officials for the 12 & Under LC Championship Meet.  See the letter, below, and contact Jennifer Pennings for more information.
July 18, 2006 -- As set out in Section 8.5 of the By-Laws of Wisconsin Swimming, the LSC is seeking a Certified Public Accountant to provide an audit or review of the accounts, books and records of the LSC.  As a non-profit organization, we are hoping to find a CPA who will be able and willing to perform the audit on a reduced fee basis, or perhaps who is willing to donate the services.  Please contact Peter Healy by email at peterhealy@yahoo.com if you have someone connected with your club, or know of someone, who would be interested in providing this service.

Wisconsin Swimming By-Laws are available on the LSC Rules Page.

July 13, 2006 -- Wisconsin Top 16 Updates for July 13, 2006 can be found at the Wisconsin Top Times Page along with Wisconsin State Records and links to the USA Swimming SWIMS Database.  New this time are 11-12 800m Freestyle events, and complete 18 & Under rankings.
July 12, 2006 -- After the entry deadline passed, the Northern Silver Meet had approximately 450 total swims (8-lane pool) and the Southern Silver Meet had approximately 700 total swims (10-lane pool) for the 2.5 day meet.  Although this would make for a comfortable sized meet with quick sessions, both meets have been deemed too small.  For a point of reference, one of the sessions in the Northern Silver meet was scheduled to last 25 minutes.

The Silver Meet "at least" qualifying time standards have been removed for this summer and the new entry deadline is Monday, July 17, 2006.  It is the host clubs' discretion to extend the deadline if they so choose, but all teams attending the Silver meet should have an updated meet entry in by Monday, July 17 unless they hear differently from the host team.

The Age Group / Senior Committee will address the Silver meet in its October meeting.  Some of the ideas currently floating around include:

If your team is hosting a meet this weekend, please announce this important change to the swimmers and families attending your meet.

July 11, 2006 -- Updated Meet Information Doc and PDF files have been posted.  There were minor corrections to the cut times for Event 41 13-14 200 Back and Event 46 Senior 200 Fly.  The Hy-Tek file is correct.  See the Latest Meet News.
